Their story, step by step

1. Step 1

   A farm girl enlists

   Riven was born in Trevale, a coastal farming village in Noxus, and was orphaned young. She worked the farms until recruiters from the Fury Company inspired her to join the army. Her strength and dedication caught the eye of Emperor Boram Darkwill, who gave her a runic blade enchanted by a pale sorceress, LeBlanc.

2. Step 2

   The horror in Navori

   Riven was sent to Ionia with the invasion force. While escorting a commander in Navori Province who had ordered experimental chemical weapons from Singed, a flaming arrow hit their wagon. The chemicals burst out and killed Noxian soldiers and Ionian fighters alike, including her fellow soldiers. Her blade shielded her, but she watched the others die, and it broke her faith in Noxus.

3. Step 3

   Breaking the blade

   She left Noxus and wandered Ionia, hoping to erase her past. She asked the windblade master Souma to shatter her sword, and a stray shard killed him. At her trial the last shard revived the blade and her memories, and she confessed. Yasuo, who had been blamed for the same death, came to confront her, and their fight ended when his wind technique saved her adoptive father Asa Konte from a shard. She was sentenced to work on the Konte farm.

4. Step 4

   The arena

   That peace did not last, and Riven was captured and forced to fight in the Reckoner's Arena run by Draven. During the Harrowing, as Viego's Ruination spread, she helped Lucian and Senna escape.

5. Step 5

   The Sentinels of Light

   Riven briefly joined the Sentinels of Light to fight the Ruination and make amends. Irelia first rejected her for her part in the invasion, but over the campaign they came to respect each other.

Turning points

• Was given the runic blade by Boram Darkwill
• Saw Singed's chemicals kill her comrades in Navori
• Asked Souma to break her blade, and he was killed
• Helped Lucian and Senna escape, then joined the Sentinels

Where their story stands now

Riven's whereabouts after the Sentinels campaign are unclear, and she may have returned to the Konte farm. Her blade is still broken, and LeBlanc appears to want it back. It is also open whether her atonement will ever settle her past.

   From tyranny to tribes

   Before Noxus existed, the Immortal Bastion belonged to Mordekaiser, whose reign is remembered as the Age of Tyranny. After the Rune Wars the Noxii tribes took the fortress and founded modern Noxus.

2. Noxus · step 2

   The rivalry with Demacia

   Noxus and Demacia fought on and off for centuries. Sion's killing of King Jarvan I is the war's most famous moment.

3. Noxus · step 3

   The invasion of Ionia

   For about five years Noxus invaded Ionia, conquering territory and taking magical artifacts. The campaign finally failed, and Irelia led the Ionian resistance.

4. Noxus · step 4

   The Trifarix

   Around 990 AN Swain overthrew Emperor Darkwill and a council of three replaced the emperor. The wiki describes a second invasion of Ionia as looming.
