Who they are
Viego was king of the Blessed Isles. He took his dead wife Isolde's body to the Waters of Life, and the blast that followed destroyed his kingdom and became the Ruination.
Their story belongs to Shadow Isles. Once the Blessed Isles; now a land of mist, wraiths and the ruined.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
The overlooked prince
Viego was the fourth child of Camavor's royal family and was overshadowed by his older brothers. He received a fine education and military training but little attention. His closest companion was his niece Kalista, who became his trusted general.
- Step 2
Isolde
When his father died, Viego took the throne unprepared. He fell in love with Isolde, a seamstress from a conquered territory, and married her. Absorbed in her, he neglected the kingdom, and uprisings spread.
- Step 3
The poisoned blade
An assassin sent by conspirators aimed at the king, but Kalista intercepted the blade and Isolde was poisoned instead. Viego threw every resource at finding a cure, while Hecarim brutally put down rebellions. Kalista found the Waters of Life on the Blessed Isles, but returned after Isolde had died. Viego refused to accept it and imprisoned Kalista for treason.
- Step 4
The Ruination
Viego forced the location from Kalista and sailed with his army. When the islanders refused him, he ordered slaughter. Kalista refused to take part. He reached the vault, guided by the deceptive warden Thresh, and put Isolde in the Waters. She returned as a corrupted shadow and struck him with his own blade. The blast turned the Blessed Isles into the Shadow Isles, and his mind was trapped in the sword for centuries.
- Step 5
Return
Gangplank and Thresh woke him, and he possessed Gangplank until several champions, including Ahri, Braum, Illaoi, Miss Fortune, Pyke and Yasuo, imprisoned him in a Buhru artifact. He later escaped and learned that fragments of Isolde's soul lived in Senna. With Vex's help he unleashed Harrowings across the world, possessing champions along the way.
- Step 6
Defeat
He gathered fragments from Senna, Gwen and the Maiden of the Mist and took them to Camavor to bring Isolde back. She was horrified by what he had become and got Akshan to kill her, freeing the others. The Sentinels of Light defeated him and bound him in Hallowed Mist.
Turning points
- Marrying Isolde and neglecting his realm
- Imprisoning Kalista and invading the Blessed Isles
- Immersing Isolde in the Waters of Life
- Being defeated by the Sentinels of Light after Isolde's rejection
Where their story stands now
Viego is restrained in Camavor but struggles against his bonds. Nilah warns that he will eventually break free, which would awaken the remaining Ten Kings demons. Whether he ever truly loved Isolde or only wanted to possess her is left unanswered.
