Character · The Freljord

Braum

Freljord champion.

Who they are

Braum is one of the best-known champions of the Freljord.

Their story belongs to The Freljord. Three tribes, one frozen land, and something sealed beneath the ice.

Their story, step by step

  1. Step 1

    A mother's lesson

Braum grew up in the Freljord, larger than other children but taught by his mother that courage meant helping those in need. When ice giants threatened an enemy tribe, she went to their aid without hesitation. That showed him that the whole Freljord was one family.

  2. Step 2

    Becoming a legend

As an adult he left home to help people across the frozen north. Tall tales grew around him, such as felling a forest in a night or punching a mountain to rubble. He chose not to correct them, since the stories inspired others to be generous.

  3. Step 3

    Friend of Ashe's circle

At Rakelstake, where Ashe leads the Avarosan, Braum met the rage-driven warrior Tryndamere and calmed him with his shield, starting a friendship. He supports Ashe's push to unify the tribes but keeps no tribe of his own. He is puzzled that Lissandra's Frostguard hunts him.

  4. Step 4

    Seeking medicine

Hearing that illness was striking Freljord children, he sailed for the Blessed Isles and lost his shield when the Black Mist attacked his boat. The Buhru people rescued him. In Bilgewater he joined a crew aboard the Charming Lady against the Ruined King, helping recover Maokai's Water of Life and later recovering his shield.

Turning points

  • Learning from his mother that the whole Freljord is family
  • Choosing to let the exaggerated legends about him stand
  • Calming Tryndamere's rage at Rakelstake
  • Sailing out for healing water and joining the fight against the Ruined King

Where their story stands now

Braum is back in the Freljord with the healing medicine, still working for peace between its peoples and dreaming of retiring as a poro herder. Recently he saved Nunu and Willump from wolves. Why the Frostguard pursues him is still unexplained.

    The three sisters

    Three tribes today

Ashe leads the Avarosan, who want a united Freljord. Sejuani leads the Winter's Claw, who follow raiding and tradition. Lissandra leads the Frostguard, who keep the seals. The True Ice holding the Watchers weakens a little more every year.
