Character · The Freljord

Trundle

The cunning frost troll king who serves Lissandra.

Who they are

Trundle was exiled from his tribe for questioning its strategy. The ice mage Lissandra gave him the True Ice weapon Boneshiver in exchange for military allegiance.

He united the scattered troll tribes and rules from Frost-Troll Village.

Their story belongs to The Freljord. Three tribes, one frozen land, and something sealed beneath the ice.

Their story, step by step

  1. Step 1

    A cast-out troll

Trundle was born in a Freljord cave with fifteen siblings, most of whom died in the harsh cold. He joined his chieftain's raiding warband. When the chieftain wanted to raid lands that had already been picked clean, Trundle said there was nothing left to take, and the chieftain exiled him as a coward and a fool.

  2. Step 2

    Meeting Lissandra

He lived alone, avoiding trolls and yetis, until he found the Howling Abyss and met the Ice Witch Lissandra. She saw that he was Iceborn, able to survive True Ice, and offered him a place in the Frostguard.

  3. Step 3

    Boneshiver

In return for his allegiance and a troll army, Lissandra gave him Boneshiver, a club of True Ice. He went back to his old tribe and beat the chieftain, who was frozen and shattered, and the trolls made him king.

  4. Step 4

    Defeating Yettu

A northern troll named Yettu also claimed to be king. Trundle challenged him to an eating contest, hid food under his cloak, and tricked Yettu into stabbing himself fatally.

  5. Step 5

    Enemies and rivals

He blocked the Noxian warrior Darius during a campaign into the Freljord and was knocked out by Darius's frozen axe in a hard fight. He has raided Avarosan lands, which makes him an enemy of Ashe, and he faced Ryze when the mage hunted World Runes. He rules from Frost-Troll Village.

Turning points

  • Being exiled for speaking up about the raids
  • Accepting Boneshiver from Lissandra
  • Tricking Yettu to claim the throne
  • Facing Darius

Where their story stands now

Trundle rules the Frost Trolls as Lissandra's ally. How stable that alliance is, and whether trouble with the Avarosans or Noxus will grow, is not settled.

Where this fits in the story

  1. The Freljord · step 1

    The Watchers and the Iceborn

The Watchers, beings from the Void with no form of their own, turned humans of the Freljord into immortal Iceborn who served them and prepared the world for oblivion.

  2. The Freljord · step 2

    The three sisters

Avarosa led an Iceborn rebellion against the Watchers, and her sister Lissandra wove a spell of True Ice that entombed them beneath the Howling Abyss. Lissandra paid for it with her sisters and now watches the seal.

  3. The Freljord · step 3

    Ornn and Volibear

Demigods shaped the early Freljord. Ornn, the craftsman, withdrew after his conflict with the storm-god Volibear ended the Hearthblood civilization.

  4. The Freljord · step 4

    Three tribes today

Ashe leads the Avarosan, who want a united Freljord. Sejuani leads the Winter's Claw, who follow raiding and tradition. Lissandra leads the Frostguard, who keep the seals. The True Ice holding the Watchers weakens a little more every year.
