Who they are
Brand was once Kegan Rodhe, a Freljordian who betrayed his companions to claim a World Rune for himself. The artifact consumed his humanity and left him a vessel of living flame.
He now wanders in search of more Runes, driven by vengeance against those who wronged him in his old life.
Their story belongs to The Freljord. Three tribes, one frozen land, and something sealed beneath the ice.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
The Reaver-Bastard
Kegan Rodhe was born in Rygann's Reach, a settlement in Lokfar in the Freljord. His father was a reaver who abandoned them, and his mother Krezia was a healer. The villagers shunned him as the reaver's bastard, though they tolerated his mother for her healing, and he grew up angry and volatile. His one friend was a local girl, Zvanna, who was kind to him.
- Step 2
Burning it down
His mother died of exhaustion from overwork, and the villagers demanded he be exiled. Blaming the settlement's leader, Old Rygann, he spread oil in his house and set it ablaze. The fire consumed the whole settlement, including Zvanna's home, where he found her dead with her family. He felt remorse, but his bitterness remained.
- Step 3
Ryze's apprentice
Kegan wandered the frozen wilderness for weeks until a blizzard drove him into a cave. There the mage Ryze healed his frostbite and burns and took him on as an apprentice.
- Step 4
The World Rune
The two found a World Rune. Kegan betrayed his master and grabbed it for himself. The rune's power burned away his humanity and soul, leaving a vessel of living flame called Brand.
- Step 5
Hunting for more
Brand is now immortal and wields enormous fire magic. The rune turned his old resentment into a single purpose, hunting more World Runes and chasing Ryze, whom he hopes to tempt into using their power alongside him.

Where their story stands now
Brand is still searching for more World Runes and pursuing Ryze. It is unknown whether anything of Kegan Rodhe remains inside him or whether the change can ever be undone.

Avarosa led an Iceborn rebellion against the Watchers, and her sister Lissandra wove a spell of True Ice that entombed them beneath the Howling Abyss. Lissandra paid for it with her sisters and now watches the seal.

Demigods shaped the early Freljord. Ornn, the craftsman, withdrew after his conflict with the storm-god Volibear ended the Hearthblood civilization.

Ashe leads the Avarosan, who want a united Freljord. Sejuani leads the Winter's Claw, who follow raiding and tradition. Lissandra leads the Frostguard, who keep the seals. The True Ice holding the Watchers weakens a little more every year.
