Who they are
Ashe leads the Avarosan and wants to unite the Freljord's scattered clans. She found a bow made entirely of True Ice at Ghulfrost.
Their story belongs to The Freljord. Three tribes, one frozen land, and something sealed beneath the ice.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A warmother's daughter
Ashe was born in Vathcaer to Grena, warmother of the Avarosan tribe, and grew up under heavy pressure to succeed her. Her one comfort was Sejuani, granddaughter of the Winter's Claw chieftain Hejian, who visited in the summers. The friendship ended when Grena questioned how Hejian treated Sejuani and the tribes cut ties.
- Step 2
Chasing the Throne
Grena became obsessed with finding the Throne of Avarosa, the treasure of a legendary hero. She overrode her aunt Helnr and ignored warnings from the frost priest Maalcrom that her people were exhausted. Ashe chose to stay with her mother.
- Step 3
The True Ice bow
The Frostguard ambushed them, and Grena sacrificed herself so Ashe could escape. At the end of the map Ashe found that Maalcrom, now the Draklorn, served the Frostguard. As he strangled her she drew a bow of True Ice from the stones, her hair turned white, and she defeated him.
- Step 4
Sisters, then rivals
Ashe returned to find her village destroyed. Sejuani rescued her from a grellfeen and swore a blood oath as battlesister. Then Sejuani led a raid to burn the Ebrataal village to ease food shortages. Ashe stopped it, arguing that all lives mattered, and so became Sejuani's enemy.
- Step 5
Uniting the tribes
The surviving Ebrataal pledged themselves to Ashe as the new Avarosans. As more joined, rumors spread that she was Avarosa reborn, and she used that story to win allies and build the Freljord's largest tribe through diplomacy. She married Tryndamere, first as a political arrangement, and real affection grew.
- Step 6
Warmother today
Ashe now leads the Avarosans under the motto of one tribe, one people, one Freljord. Sejuani, warmother of the Winter's Claw, sees her as a stain on Grena's legacy and seeks to destroy her.
Turning points
- Drawing the True Ice bow after her mother's death
- Standing against Sejuani to save the Ebrataal
- Using the Avarosa legend to build a coalition
- Marrying Tryndamere
Where their story stands now
Ashe leads the largest Freljord tribe, but peace through unity is far from won. Sejuani is hostile, the Avarosans are losing ground in clashes with Trundle's trolls, and Lissandra is waiting in the shadows to strike.
Who they are tied to
- Sejuani →Once a childhood friend and blood-sworn battlesister, Sejuani became Ashe's chief rival after Ashe refused to join the Ebrataal raid.
- Lissandra →Without Ashe or Sejuani knowing, Lissandra plans to strike both tribes and remove anyone who might be Avarosa's heir.
- Tryndamere →A rage-fueled barbarian king and champion of the Avarosan.
- Gragas →A huge, jolly brewmaster who roams the Freljord hunting for the perfect ale.
- Trundle →The cunning frost troll king who serves Lissandra.
Where this fits in the story
- The Freljord · step 1
The Watchers and the Iceborn
The Watchers, beings from the Void with no form of their own, turned humans of the Freljord into immortal Iceborn who served them and prepared the world for oblivion.
- The Freljord · step 2
The three sisters
Avarosa led an Iceborn rebellion against the Watchers, and her sister Lissandra wove a spell of True Ice that entombed them beneath the Howling Abyss. Lissandra paid for it with her sisters and now watches the seal.
- The Freljord · step 3
Ornn and Volibear
Demigods shaped the early Freljord. Ornn, the craftsman, withdrew after his conflict with the storm-god Volibear ended the Hearthblood civilization.
- The Freljord · step 4
Three tribes today
Ashe leads the Avarosan, who want a united Freljord. Sejuani leads the Winter's Claw, who follow raiding and tradition. Lissandra leads the Frostguard, who keep the seals. The True Ice holding the Watchers weakens a little more every year.
