Who they are
Hecarim betrayed Kalista, and his cruelty fused him with his steed into a monstrous spirit enslaved to the Mist.
Their story belongs to Shadow Isles. Once the Blessed Isles; now a land of mist, wraiths and the ruined.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A proud knight of Camavor
Hecarim was a nobleman of Camavor and a lieutenant of the Iron Order. The Grand Master judged him unfit to lead because of his lust for glory. Hecarim left the Grand Master to die in battle and then claimed innocence as the Order swore to him.
- Step 2
Under King Viego
After King Alvaro died, the Iron Order held back its oath to Viego until Hecarim was promised Princess Kalista as his bride. He accepted for the royal connection, not out of love. When an attack on Viego killed Queen Isolde, he pushed the grieving king toward wars of vengeance.
- Step 3
Betrayal at Helia
On the voyage to the Blessed Isles, Hecarim plotted to put Kalista on the throne. She refused, broke off the betrothal and imprisoned him. Freed when Viego's fleet broke through the Mist, he fought Kalista, and after she spared him he stabbed her with his spear.
- Step 4
The Ruination
Viego's attempt to revive Isolde unleashed the Ruination. It destroyed Hecarim and his horse and fused them into one wraith bound to the Shadow Isles and the Black Mist.
- Step 5
Harrowings
For ages Hecarim haunted the Isles and led raids when the Mist spread outward. In the Bilgewater Harrowing he hunted Miss Fortune's crew until Illaoi offered him a chance at redemption, and for a moment he looked human again. He refused and fled.
- Step 6
Roaming free
With Viego back and consumed by his search for Isolde, Hecarim roams the world claiming lands for him. Near Demacia he chased a squire named Jonath into Havenfall, where he slaughtered everyone and cursed them to undeath.
Turning points
- Abandoning his Grand Master and taking power
- Stabbing Kalista at Helia
- Refusing Illaoi's offer of redemption
Where their story stands now
Hecarim remains a remorseless spirit of war leading spectral riders. Kalista hunts him for her murder, and Illaoi's refused offer is the one sign that something human may remain.
