Kalista

Their story, step by step

1. Step 1

   A general of Camavor

Kalista was born into the royal family of Camavor, daughter of the heir to the Argent Throne. Her uncle Viego was close to her in age, so they grew up almost like siblings. After her father died and Viego took the throne, she served him as a general, known for being practical and just.

2. Step 2

Isolde and the Waters of Life

An assassin tried to kill Viego, and Kalista deflected the poisoned blade, which still grazed his wife Isolde. Kalista sailed to the Blessed Isles to get the Waters of Life, but she came back too late. Viego, grieving, imprisoned her as a traitor.

3. Step 3

   Hecarim's betrayal

In her cell Hecarim, a captain of the Iron Order, convinced her to reveal where the Blessed Isles lay, saying he would help her. He then told Viego, who ordered an invasion. When Viego told her to kill the Isles' elders she refused and tried to win Hecarim over, but he and his knights killed her, along with her lover Ledros and her soldiers.

4. Step 4

   The Ruination begins

The invasion damaged the barrier around the Blessed Isles and turned them into the Shadow Isles. Kalista rose again as a wraith of vengeance, shaped by what Hecarim did to her.

5. Step 5

   Hunting oath-breakers

She now hunts those who break oaths through pacts of vengeance, taking the souls of the people she avenges into herself and slowly losing her humanity. She keeps killing Hecarim and the Iron Order, who keep returning through the Black Mist. Ledros is trying to free her soul, although Thresh has urged him to stop.

Turning points

• Deflecting the blade meant for Viego
• Revealing the Blessed Isles to Hecarim
• Refusing to kill the elders
• Rising as a spirit of vengeance

Where their story stands now

Kalista remains a spirit of vengeance in the Shadow Isles, repeatedly killing Hecarim and his knights. Whether Ledros can free her or the Ruination can ever end is unresolved.
