Who they are
Vex is a yordle from cheerful Bandle City who felt out of place until she found the Shadow Isles. She commands shadows and travels with a sentient shadow companion.
She once partnered with Viego to spread gloom but left him on learning he only wanted to revive his wife.
Their story belongs to Shadow Isles and also touches Bandle City. Once the Blessed Isles; now a land of mist, wraiths and the ruined.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A gloomy yordle
Vex grew up in cheerful Bandle City but hated the brightness and sulked in her room. She bonded with her own shadow and valued its quiet.
- Step 2
Following the Mist
When the Black Mist invaded, most fought it, but Vex followed it to the Shadow Isles. There she found a place that fit her. The Mist and her yordle magic together gave her shadow a mind of its own and her dark powers.
- Step 3
Viego
On the Isles she allied with Viego to bring gloom to the world. She left him when she learned he only wanted to bring back his wife, Isolde, which she found repulsive.
- Step 4
Facing her family
Vex went home to Bandle City to make her parents despise her by bragging about her misdeeds, but they responded with love and forgiveness, which hurt her more. She called them the worst and left for the Isles for good.
- Step 5
Uncle Milty
When her adoptive uncle Milty tried to take her back, she argued against his optimism until he left in tears.
Turning points
- Following the Black Mist to the Shadow Isles
- Allying with Viego
- Leaving him over Isolde
- Refusing her parents' forgiveness
Where their story stands now
Vex lives in the Shadow Isles with her shadow. She acts apathetic, though there are hints that she feels more than she shows. Her relationship with Milty and her parents is unresolved, and Grimm is infatuated with her.
Who they are tied to
Where this fits in the story
- Shadow Isles · step 1
The Blessed Isles
Before the Ruination the Blessed Isles were a center of learning and magic, with a city called Helia and the sacred Waters of Life.
- Shadow Isles · step 2
Viego and Isolde
Viego took his dead wife's body to the Waters of Life. She came back as a wraith of shadow and rage, and her anguished magic clashed with his enchanted blade, causing the blast that destroyed the kingdom.
- Shadow Isles · step 3
The Black Mist and the ruined
The Mist turned the islands into a cursed place. Thresh embraced undeath, Hecarim was fused with his steed and enslaved to the Mist, and Kalista, his betrayed general, became a spirit of vengeance.
- Shadow Isles · step 4
The Harrowing
Every so often the Black Mist spreads beyond the isles, letting weakened spirits manifest and hunt the living. Bilgewater is a frequent target.
