Who they are
Illaoi is the priestess of Nagakabouros, the Mother Serpent. She channels her god's power to defend Bilgewater from the supernatural, including the Harrowing.
Their story belongs to Bilgewater. A lawless harbor where anything can be bought, and the dead come ashore.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A Buhru Priestess
Illaoi was born into the Buhru people of the Serpent Islands and trained for the priesthood from childhood. She showed great spiritual talent. In her youth she fell in love with Gangplank and the two were together for a long time.
- Step 2
Truth Bearer
She was chosen as Truth Bearer of Nagakabouros, the Mother Serpent. That role forced her to end things with Gangplank. She gave herself fully to her goddess's faith and became a powerful figure in spirit magic.
- Step 3
Saving Gangplank
When Miss Fortune destroyed Gangplank's ship, Illaoi pulled him from the sea and took him to the Serpent Islands. She gave him a spiritual test, which he passed, and later helped his effort to retake Bilgewater.
- Step 4
Against the Black Mist
She also protected Miss Fortune and others from Black Mist attacks, driving off the Ruined King's undead warrior Hecarim. She came to suspect Miss Fortune also needed a spiritual test. Nagakabouros later sent her to Bilgewater to hunt the Red Dock Ripper, and she left with Buhru warriors.
Turning points

Each time the Black Mist from the Shadow Isles reaches Bilgewater, the dead rise. Illaoi's divine power is one of the port's defenses.
