Who they are
Briar was made by the Black Rose's hemomancers during Boram Darkwill's reign as a perfect blood-powered assassin. Her bloodlust proved too wild to control, so she was locked in a pillory fitted with a hemolith gemstone to keep her mind focused.
After years of confinement she escaped and now wanders Noxus as a fugitive. She is growing more independent and shows a childlike curiosity about the world outside her cell.
Their story belongs to Noxus. An empire that rewards strength, wherever it comes from.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A made weapon
Near the end of Boram Darkwill's reign, the Black Rose's hemomancers built Briar from blood magic as a perfect assassin that needed no food. She turned out to be consumed by hemomania, a constant bloodlust that spared no one.
- Step 2
The pillory
Her first mission ended with her killing everyone around her. The Black Rose then fitted her with a pillory holding a hemolith gemstone to suppress her frenzy and keep her mind steady.
- Step 3
Swain's coup
When Jericho Swain moved against Darkwill, the Black Rose released her to kill him. She slaughtered indiscriminately and he got away, and his guards recaptured her and sent her to a hidden facility with other failed experiments.
- Step 4
Years in a cell
She passed the time listening to guards and tending pet spiders. The neighboring hemomaniacs bored her as simple-minded, and she began to want a balance between calm and frenzy, slowly loosening her pillory's gem.
- Step 5
Breaking out
She lured a guard close and fed on him for strength. During the escape she befriended a young janitor and mistook it for friendship; when guards parted them she shattered the pillory and fought her way out in full frenzy. Outside, she rebuilt her restraint.
Turning points
- Killing everyone around her on her first mission
- Being sent after Swain and losing control
- Escaping her cell and rebuilding her own restraint
Where their story stands now
Briar wanders Noxus as a fugitive with childlike curiosity while holding her hunger in check, and the Black Rose is quietly watching. Whether she can keep that balance, and what her tie to Vladimir is now, remain open.
Who they are tied to
- Vladimir →She sees Vladimir, her chief architect, as something like a father figure, though she is unsure about the word.
- Swain →Swain was her target during his coup; she failed, and his guards captured and imprisoned her.
- Sion →Sion was another hemomancy experiment held near her, and she found him a boring example of mindless rage.
- Talon →Talon is one of the few people she considers a friend, though the lore does not explain how they met.
Where this fits in the story
- Noxus · step 1
From tyranny to tribes

- Noxus · step 2
The rivalry with Demacia
Noxus and Demacia fought on and off for centuries. Sion's killing of King Jarvan I is the war's most famous moment.
- Noxus · step 3
The invasion of Ionia
For about five years Noxus invaded Ionia, conquering territory and taking magical artifacts. The campaign finally failed, and Irelia led the Ionian resistance.
- Noxus · step 4
The Trifarix
Around 990 AN Swain overthrew Emperor Darkwill and a council of three replaced the emperor. The wiki describes a second invasion of Ionia as looming.
