  1. Step 1

    Growing up in Zaun

    Ekko was born into poverty in Zaun. His parents worked constantly, so he spent much of his time with Benzo at the pawn shop, where he developed a gift for mechanics.

  2. Step 2

    Loss in the Lanes

    Silco's takeover and the flood of shimmer through the Lanes left Ekko devastated. He had lost people close to him and watched a childhood friend taken in by Silco.

  3. Step 3

    The Firelights

    Ekko gathered Zaun's young people into the Firelights and made a hidden sanctuary around an underground tree. He built aerogliders, smoke grenades and crystal bombs to sabotage Silco's operations.

  4. Step 4

    Heimerdinger and the Z-Drive

    Heimerdinger took him in as a mentor. In another timeline where hextech never existed, Ekko worked with a version of an old friend to build the Z-Drive, a device that rewinds time by about four seconds.

  5. Step 5

    Back home

    Back in his own timeline he used the Z-Drive in the fight to defend the undercity against Ambessa's invading Noxian army. In the final confrontation he overloaded it far past safe limits to undo a victory by the enemy, then collapsed.

    From port city to undercity

    Zaun began as an ancient seafaring port sacred to Janna. Around 772 AN the site was drowned in a catastrophic excavation, and it was rebuilt as the undercity below Piltover.

  2. Zaun · step 2

    Chemtech and Shimmer

    Without rules, Zaun's alchemists pushed science further. Singed's Shimmer serum can enhance soldiers and also became a major illegal drug that drives the underground economy.

  3. Zaun · step 3

    The Day of Ash and Silco

    Vander and Silco led a failed uprising on the Day of Ash, and hundreds died. Silco then built a criminal empire on Shimmer until his adopted daughter Jinx killed him.

  4. Zaun · step 4

    A fractured city

    After Silco the Chembarons split, Piltover occupied the undercity, Noxus intervened and Viktor rose to prominence. Zaun is now represented in Piltover's politics, but the peace is uneasy.
