The story, step by step
A warning from the future
Ekko meets a future version of himself who claims Zaun can be saved by correcting a disastrous timeline. Their alliance makes the Z-Drive's familiar rewinds part of a much larger ethical conflict.
Zaun under pressure
Chembarons, Piltover inequality and Camille's intervention show that no temporal solution exists outside politics. Each changed event affects people whose lives cannot be reduced to errors in an optimal sequence.
Rejecting the perfect timeline
Ekko discovers that Future Ekko's plan sacrifices present relationships to manufacture a preferred city. He defends the imperfect lives already being lived and chooses change created with Zaun rather than imposed over it.
What the story is really about
Optimization can become domination
Knowing more possible futures does not grant the right to erase the people who chose differently.
