Blitzcrank is a Zaunite machine.
Their story belongs to Zaun. The smoggy undercity where unregulated science pushes back.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A scrapped golem
After a huge chemical spill in Zaun, mechanical golems were sent to clean up. One broke down and was left as scrap until the inventor Viktor found it. He fitted a hextech crystal from Shurima into the dormant machine. As it woke, electric arcs fizzed around it, and Viktor named it Blitzcrank.
- Step 2
A machine that learns
Unlike other golems, Blitzcrank learned instead of only following orders. It worked faster and better than expected, started to improvise on its instructions to help the people of Zaun, and even began talking with residents. It lacked nuance, though, and sometimes took requests too literally.
- Step 3
Leaving to protect Viktor
Told to remove sources of chemical runoff, Blitzcrank destroyed an entire factory. Its chem-baron owner demanded that Viktor destroy the golem or die. Viktor planned an escape, but Blitzcrank left on its own to protect its creator.
- Step 4
Guardian of Zaun
On its own, Blitzcrank patrols Zaun and gives help where it is needed, upgrading itself with things like detachable rocket arms. It saved the passengers of the Rising Howl when it malfunctioned, catching a falling child. It has befriended Ekko and Zeri, fighting chempunks with them and getting repairs from Zeri.

From port city to undercity
Zaun began as an ancient seafaring port sacred to Janna. Around 772 AN the site was drowned in a catastrophic excavation, and it was rebuilt as the undercity below Piltover.

Chemtech and Shimmer
Without rules, Zaun's alchemists pushed science further. Singed's Shimmer serum can enhance soldiers and also became a major illegal drug that drives the underground economy.

The Day of Ash and Silco
Vander and Silco led a failed uprising on the Day of Ash, and hundreds died. Silco then built a criminal empire on Shimmer until his adopted daughter Jinx killed him.

A fractured city
After Silco the Chembarons split, Piltover occupied the undercity, Noxus intervened and Viktor rose to prominence. Zaun is now represented in Piltover's politics, but the peace is uneasy.
