Who they are
Dr. Mundo was an enforcer who was tortured at Osweld Asylum in Zaun. The experiments destroyed his memory and mind, and he invented a new identity as a physician.
He now operates from the asylum, convinced that citizens are patients needing treatment through violent, often lethal procedures. He sincerely believes he is helping.
Their story belongs to Zaun. The smoggy undercity where unregulated science pushes back.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
An enforcer in Zaun
Dr. Mundo began as a big, physically imposing man with a friendly manner. He worked as an enforcer and henchman for a chem-baron, using his size to carry out the baron's orders.
- Step 2
Osweld Asylum
After a serious mistake angered his employer, the chem-baron had him committed to Osweld Asylum as a punishment. There he was put through experimental treatments. His body grew even stronger while his mind deteriorated.
- Step 3
A new identity
Repeated chemical injections and torture broke his mind. He lost his memories, including his own name and the identity of his boss. He took his restraining jacket for a doctor's clothing and decided he was Dr. Mundo, a physician.
- Step 4
Taking over the asylum
Mundo went on to 'treat' the asylum's population with brutal procedures, killing and dismembering the staff. When his former employer returned to reclaim him, Mundo performed 'surgery' on him too, and the man died.

Still practising
He now works from the abandoned asylum and preys on unsuspecting Zaunites he sees as patients. He fought Ekko on the Sump Level, taking him for a carrier of a virus, and Ekko escaped with his time magic.

Where their story stands now
Mundo is at large in Zaun, fully in his delusion, and believes he is a dedicated healer. the lore shows no sign that he will recover or recognise what he does.

From port city to undercity
Zaun began as an ancient seafaring port sacred to Janna. Around 772 AN the site was drowned in a catastrophic excavation, and it was rebuilt as the undercity below Piltover.

Chemtech and Shimmer
Without rules, Zaun's alchemists pushed science further. Singed's Shimmer serum can enhance soldiers and also became a major illegal drug that drives the underground economy.

The Day of Ash and Silco
Vander and Silco led a failed uprising on the Day of Ash, and hundreds died. Silco then built a criminal empire on Shimmer until his adopted daughter Jinx killed him.

A fractured city
After Silco the Chembarons split, Piltover occupied the undercity, Noxus intervened and Viktor rose to prominence. Zaun is now represented in Piltover's politics, but the peace is uneasy.
