Who they are
Lux can use magic in a kingdom that has long denied it and hunted mages. She is Garen's younger sister, and she has to keep her power hidden.
Their story belongs to Demacia. A proud kingdom behind high walls that fears magic.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A hidden gift
Luxanna Crownguard was born into one of Demacia's most prestigious noble houses, in High Silvermere. Her older brother Garen went off to military life while she was prepared for a quiet domestic role. After wolves ambushed her on a trip beyond the walls, she unleashed light magic by instinct. In a kingdom that fears mages, and with an uncle who had died fighting a rogue mage, she came to think of herself as an abomination.
- Step 2
Galio and acceptance
As her power became harder to suppress, Lux went to the Galio monument outside the Great City, hoping to learn control. Her magic woke the petricite colossus. After he rescued her from patrolmen who took her for an escaped mage, Galio told her that her gift was special. That night changed how she saw herself, and she turned down her mother's plan to have her treated to remove the magic.
- Step 3
Illuminator and relief work
Lux kept practicing in secret while her aunt Tianna taught her strategy and history. She joined the Illuminators, a charitable order, helping the sick and poor while looking for ways to make Demacia kinder to mages. When an earthquake struck Terbisia, she joined the relief effort. There she let her hands glow so a dying blind man could see light one last time.
- Step 4
Fossbarrow
Lux travelled north to her great-grandfather Fossian's tomb, and found the town of Fossbarrow gripped by nightmares and paranoia. Garen and Vanguard soldiers arrived, and after a man driven mad killed his family, Garen executed him. A fear-feeding demon was behind it, possessing the missing boy Luca. Lux freed him with compassion and light, and together they drove the demon off. At the funeral she argued for mercy while Garen argued Demacia could not afford it.
- Step 5
Sylas and the rebellion
In the mageseeker archive Lux met the prisoner Sylas, who taught her to stop repressing her magic and use it instead. She visited him for weeks, then helped him by stealing the blueprints for petricite, which showed it absorbed magic rather than blocking it. At his public execution she pleaded for him, but he used her power to break free, destroyed the plaza and freed other prisoners. He spared Garen at her begging, though he told her not to waste kindness on people who loathed her.
- Step 6
Standing against Sylas
After the riot Lux told the mageseekers about Sylas's abilities and petricite's true effect, without revealing that she was a mage. Fearing he would march on King Jarvan III, she drank a petricite potion so he could not absorb her magic, wounded him and rescued Prince Jarvan IV. When she met Sylas and mage refugees fleeing through the sewers she could not talk them out of following him, and she let them go. Afterwards she became Governor of Terbisia.
Turning points
- Galio tells her that her magic is special and she should keep it
- Freeing Luca from the demon at Fossbarrow
- Helping Sylas, then watching him turn the execution into a rebellion
- Drinking petricite to rescue Prince Jarvan IV from Sylas's followers
Where their story stands now
Lux is Governor of Terbisia and an officially recognized Illuminator, working to move Demacia toward tolerance. Her bond with Garen is strained after her public defiance, her role in Sylas's escape is still hidden, and Sylas remains at large with his followers.
