Who they are
Kayle is one of the Winged Protectors, whom Demacians revere as religious figures. Her conflict with her sister Morgana is known as the Winged Sisters' conflict.

Their story, step by step
- Step 1
Twins born on Targon
Kayle was born on Mount Targon during the Rune Wars, just before her twin sister Morgana. Their mother was Mihira, the Aspect of Justice, and both girls inherited a share of her divine power. Their father Kilam took them away to safety and sailed to the land that became Demacia.
- Step 2
Growing up in Demacia
The sisters grew into very different people. Kayle studied law and governance and believed she carried a duty to end wars with her mother's power. When their father's sword fell from the sky and shattered, wings burst from both sisters' backs.
- Step 3
The Winged Protectors
Kayle and Morgana were celebrated as Winged Protectors of Demacia. Kayle led armies, set worthy warriors' weapons ablaze with holy fire, and founded an order of judicators to hunt criminals. Together they faced the Darkin Aatrox, with Morgana binding him so Kayle could burn his vessel away.

The sisters split
A repentant sinner asked for judgment and Kayle meant to execute him, but Morgana argued for redemption. They agreed that Morgana could rehabilitate the remorseful, yet the peace broke when Kayle's zealous protege Ronas tried to arrest Morgana and she killed him. Kayle called down fire on the city and the two fought across the sky, wrecking buildings below.

Kilam's death and departure
Their father Kilam was mortally wounded in the chaos. Morgana asked whether Kayle's justice would also have condemned him for taking them from Mihira, and Kayle had no answer. Grieving, she took Morgana's sword and left Demacia.
- Step 6
Ascent on Targon
Kayle flew to Mount Targon to join her mother. Over the centuries Morgana collected rumors of a winged figure climbing the mountain, but Kayle never returned. Riot's lore says Mihira's guidance has softened her rejection of mortal feeling, though her belief in retributive justice remains absolute.

Where their story stands now
Kayle remains on Targon, immortal and continuing her celestial ascent, while Demacia and Morgana have not seen her return. Whether the sisters will reconcile and what Kayle's ascent will make of her are left open.
