Morgana

One of the Winged Protectors.

Who they are

Morgana is one of the Winged Protectors, whom Demacians revere as religious figures. Her conflict with her sister Kayle is known as the Winged Sisters' conflict.

Their story belongs to Demacia. A proud kingdom behind high walls that fears magic.

Their story, step by step

  1. Step 1

    Born on Targon

Morgana was born on Mount Targon during the Rune Wars, the younger twin of Kayle. Their mother Mihira held the Aspect of Justice, and exposure to celestial power before birth gave both girls a fraction of it. Their father Kilam, worried about the danger that power drew, led his daughters away from Targon to found what became Demacia.

  2. Step 2

    The Winged Protectors

As teenagers the sisters grew wings after their mother's sword fell from the sky and split in two. Kayle embraced her heritage while Morgana resented hers. They defended their people together and became the Winged Protectors, though few knew there were two of them. They also fought the Darkin Aatrox, with Morgana binding him in dark fire while Kayle sealed him in his own blade.

  3. Step 3

    A Sisterhood Breaks

Kayle founded the Judicator Order to enforce strict justice, while Morgana argued for mercy toward the remorseful. When Kayle's protege Ronas tried to arrest Morgana and her followers, she killed him with her chains. Kayle returned and the sisters fought in the sky above Demacia, causing great destruction.

  4. Step 4

    Kilam's Death

In that fight their father was mortally wounded. Holding him as he died, Morgana cursed her celestial gift, and Kayle could not answer whether she would have punished their own father. Kayle took his sword and vanished into the heavens. Morgana tried to remove her wings, failed, and bound them in steel chains to live as a mortal.

  5. Step 5

    The Veiled Lady

Over centuries Morgana faded into legend as the Veiled Lady, a figure Demacians pray to for loved ones' safe passage into the afterlife. She lived in the Sacred Woods and watched Demacia turn against magic without stepping in, believing her return would also bring Kayle's before the kingdom was ready. She kept records of sightings of her sister and once heard Kayle pray to her, but did not answer.

  6. Step 6

    Sylas and the Mage Rebellion

When Sylas stole one of her feathers during the mage rebellion, Morgana tested him, then at first withheld her blessing because he put revenge first. After he came back humbled, she showed him how mages and non-mages built Demacia together and blessed him with one of Kayle's feathers. Afterwards Demacia changed, with the Mageseekers abolished and a haven for mages created. She has since sheltered Nilah's crew and rescued mages, and is raising an orphaned mage named Lisa.

Turning points

  • Binding Aatrox in dark fire alongside Kayle
  • The sky battle that killed Kilam and ended the sisters' bond
  • Chaining her own wings to live as a mortal
  • Blessing Sylas with a vision of Demacia's true origins

Where their story stands now

Morgana still lives in the Sacred Woods, protecting the downtrodden and staying out of Demacia's politics. She has not found Kayle, and her fear of drawing Kayle's judgment keeps her from returning openly.
