Who they are
Naafiri is one of the Darkin, the ascended god-warriors of Shurima, and was sealed in a dagger by the Aspect Myisha. After centuries she escaped by possessing a pack of dune hounds.
She developed a philosophy of collective unity over individual power and now aims to bring the scattered Darkin together under it.
Their story belongs to Shurima. A fallen empire of living gods, waking up again.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
An Ascended Warrior
Naafiri was one of Shurima's Ascended god-warriors, and she fought the Icathian uprising and its Void power alongside her kin. The experience left deep scars.
- Step 2
Pride and Imprisonment
After Azir's death and the empire's fall, the Ascended turned on one another. Naafiri thought herself greater than the other Darkin and had nearly led them. Myisha, Aspect of Twilight, tricked her and sealed her in a throwing dagger, hidden in a crypt.
- Step 3
Centuries in Steel
She stayed conscious in the dagger for centuries, unable to move or speak, left to dwell on her failure.
- Step 4
The Pack
A grave robber found the dagger and wrapped it in lead-lined cloth. Naafiri called a pack of dune hounds, who attacked him. When several touched the blade her mind split among them, and she took the whole pack.
- Step 5
A New Philosophy
At first she despised the hounds, but came to see the strength of a collective. She concluded the Darkin fell through personal grudges and refusal to unite, and now hunts the desert at night while aiming to bring the survivors together, grateful to Zoe for the imprisonment.
