Their story, step by step

1. Step 1

   A Brawler of Shurima

   Renekton was born in Shurima City and was a fierce street fighter from the start. His older brother Nasus disapproved but helped him into the army. There Renekton's strength joined with Nasus's planning, and a feat at the battle of Zuretta earned him the title Gatekeeper of Shurima.

2. Step 2

   Ascension

   When Nasus was facing death from a curse, Renekton carried him up the Sun Disc's stairs, knowing it might destroy him. Both brothers were instead Ascended, and Renekton became a huge crocodile-like warrior of great strength.

3. Step 3

   Rage and Shame

   He kept leading Shurima's armies, but when the library of Nashramae was captured his fury led him to destroy it. Nasus confronted him, and his brother's disapproval cooled Renekton's bloodlust and left him ashamed.

4. Step 4

   The Fall of Azir

   At the battle of Icathia, Renekton fought as the Void unleashed Voidborn on the field. Xerath sabotaged Emperor Azir's Ascension, killed him and took his power. The brothers returned to find Xerath changed into living energy.

5. Step 5

   Sealed in the Tomb

   Renekton and Nasus trapped Xerath in a sarcophagus within the empire's tomb. Renekton told Nasus to seal the tomb with him inside. For ages he fought Xerath in the dark, and Xerath fed his failing mind the lie that Nasus had imprisoned him out of jealousy.

6. Step 6

   Freed and Hunting

   The treasure hunter Sivir, betrayed by Cassiopeia, let both Renekton and Xerath out of the tomb. Renekton followed Nasus's scent into a changed world. He beat the bandit Sai-Surtha in a duel, spared Raz Bloodmane, and was pointed toward the cliffs of Azuma. The Legends of Runeterra account has him attacking Nasus on finding him, with the result left unknown.

Where their story stands now

Renekton is alive and driven by the false belief that Nasus betrayed him. The outcome of his clash with Nasus is unclear, and no one has restored his memory of the sacrifice he chose.

   The Ascended and the Sun Disc

   The Sun Disc floated above the Circle of Ascension at the capital's center, turning the desert fertile and giving warriors the power to ascend. The Ascended led Shurima's expansion for centuries.

2. Shurima · step 2

   Icathia

   After centuries of domination the Icathians rebelled. Facing defeat, they unleashed the Void, and the Ascended sealed its rifts at tremendous cost.

3. Shurima · step 3

   Xerath's betrayal

   Xerath betrayed Azir around 2000 BN and the empire collapsed. Nasus had earlier locked away his brother Renekton, who had gone mad, and Xerath's betrayal freed him.

4. Shurima · step 4

   Azir returns

   Azir was resurrected when Sivir, his last descendant, bled into the sacred sands. He restored his fallen city, and the new Shurima is reshaping the politics of the whole world.
