After Jhin visited the temple and it was later destroyed in a massacre, Hwei set out across Ionia seeking answers and redemption.

- Step 1
Heir of Koyehn
Hwei was born in Ionia's Temple of Koyehn and raised in its paint magic, which shapes emotion through art. His eyes changed colour with his mood. He had great talent but little discipline.
- Step 2
Painting the Sea
Demonstrating before the masters, he lost himself in painting Koyehn's sea and was reprimanded as the heir. He kept practicing in secret at night.
- Step 3
Jhin's Visit
Jhin visited the temple and the two artists bonded. On his last night Jhin challenged Hwei to show his true art. Hwei released his suppressed feelings in his paintings, and Jhin left with a cryptic remark about watching lotuses bloom.
- Step 4
The Fire
At dawn four paintings were destroyed, four masters were dead and the temple was burning. Lotus-shaped traps in the rubble pointed to Jhin. Hwei alone survived and left with only his brush and palette.
- Step 5
The Search
He has since followed criminals tied to Jhin across Ionia. He tortured a blacksmith for information and burned his armory, but eased a woman ferrying criminals by painting living creatures, inspiring her redemption. He is trying to reach underworld figures like Sett.
