Who they are
Kog'Maw is a small burrowing creature from the Void.
Their story belongs to The Void. A realm of nothingness that wants to unmake the world.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
Born from the Void
Kog'Maw was created by a Void entity, the same being that corrupted Malzahar, and was belched out of a rotting Void incursion in the wastes of Icathia.
- Step 2
Curious and hungry
On arrival he explored and ate nearly everything, since he must gnaw and drool on things to understand them. His feeding comes from curiosity, not malice.
- Step 3
Drawn by the Watchers
Kog'Maw wanders Shurima with no fixed home, probably between Icathia and Amakra. As part of the Void collective he serves the Watchers, who are drawing him toward Malzahar for reasons not known.
Turning points
- Emerging from a Void incursion in Icathia
- Beginning to roam Shurima, consuming what he finds
- Being drawn toward Malzahar
Where their story stands now
Kog'Maw roams Shurima serving the Watchers. Why he is being pulled toward Malzahar, and what happens when he arrives, are unknown.
Where this fits in the story
- The Void · step 1
What the Void is
The Void lies beyond reality. Its masters, the Watchers, had no form or self-awareness at first and want to unmake Runeterra.
- The Void · step 2
The Freljord
The Watchers turned humans in the Freljord into immortal Iceborn. Avarosa led a rebellion, and her sister Lissandra entombed the Watchers in True Ice beneath the Howling Abyss. Some escaped, and those trapped made the first Voidborn.
- The Void · step 3
Icathia
Around 2500 BN the Icathians rebelled against Shurima, dug up a mysterious weapon and opened a huge rift. It destroyed their civilization and released countless Voidborn. The Rupture is still there.
- The Void · step 4
Today
Nine runic seals slowly weaken, and Voidborn keep appearing. Some champions hunt them while others, like Malzahar, serve the Void or open new rifts.
