Who they are
Bel'Veth is the Empress of the Void. She consumed the port city of Belveth.

Their story, step by step
- Step 1
A Void anomaly
Bel'Veth came from the Lavender Sea, a pocket of the Void that formed beneath Shurima's deserts after wars and Watcher invasions tore dimensional rifts. Unlike other Voidborn, it refused the Watchers' commands and developed desires of its own.
- Step 2
The prophet
The Lavender Sea wanted a presence in Runeterra. It contacted a Shuriman boy named Malzahar and named him its prophet, telling him to gather sacrifices.
- Step 3
Consuming Belveth
Malzahar opened a rift that swallowed the whole city of Belveth, and the Lavender Sea absorbed its people's collective mind. This gave her vast knowledge and a sense of self. She named herself after the city.
- Step 4
A plan for all reality
She sees herself as the true embodiment of the Void and plans to remake reality in her image. She spreads her control through remora drones and Lamplights, which have infected Xer'Sai hatchlings in Sai Kahleek. Vel'Koz remains her rival because he stays loyal to the Watchers.
- Step 5
Meeting Kai'Sa
After Kai'Sa defeated Rek'Sai, she fell into the Lavender Sea, which Bel'Veth had expected. Bel'Veth showed her true form and said Kai'Sa's father Kassadin had tried and failed to stop her. She offered humanity a temporary reprieve if Kai'Sa helped destroy the Watchers, then sent Kai'Sa back to the surface when she refused.

Where their story stands now
Bel'Veth remains in the Lavender Sea, working on her plan to consume Runeterra and destroy the Watchers. She says her victory is inevitable. Whether anyone can stop her, and whether other Voidborn will follow her, is not settled.

The Void lies beyond reality. Its masters, the Watchers, had no form or self-awareness at first and want to unmake Runeterra.

The Freljord
The Watchers turned humans in the Freljord into immortal Iceborn. Avarosa led a rebellion, and her sister Lissandra entombed the Watchers in True Ice beneath the Howling Abyss. Some escaped, and those trapped made the first Voidborn.

Icathia
Around 2500 BN the Icathians rebelled against Shurima, dug up a mysterious weapon and opened a huge rift. It destroyed their civilization and released countless Voidborn. The Rupture is still there.

Today
Nine runic seals slowly weaken, and Voidborn keep appearing. Some champions hunt them while others, like Malzahar, serve the Void or open new rifts.
