Kai'Sa survived Void corruption. Her adapted, biomechanical form lets her move between realms.

Their story, step by step
- Step 1
Trapped underground
Kai'Sa was born in Sai, in southern Shurima. At ten she tried to free goats meant for Malzahar's cultists as a prank, which set off an earthquake that swallowed the village. She was left alone underground.
- Step 2
Becoming part-Void
In the Void-infested caves she met a creature about her size and killed it with a knife. Its body then grew around her as a living second skin that protected her from the Void. She spent years there learning how Voidborn creatures hunt.
- Step 3
A guardian
When she returned to the surface she met a girl named Illi and taught her to face the Void. She chose to protect Shurima's settlements from Voidborn, even though people feared her. Once she saved a merchant only to see him corrupted, and had to end his life.
- Step 4
Taliyah and Xolan
She met Taliyah and a group of survivors looking for the sanctuary of Xolan. She warned them about the Xer'Sai in the desert and fought hard when a huge Dunebreaker attacked. She and Taliyah then went on alone to clear Xolan and trapped Rek'Sai underground.
- Step 5
Bel'Veth
Kai'Sa entered the Void's Lavender Sea and was beaten and imprisoned by the empress Bel'Veth. Bel'Veth told her Kassadin was her father and that the Void had shattered his mind. The empress proposed they work together against the Watchers, then let her go.

Where their story stands now
Kai'Sa wanders as a lone guardian, tied loosely to the Preservers of Valoran, with friendships with Taliyah and Ezreal. She hasn't answered Bel'Veth's offer. Kassadin's fate and her uneasy bond with her carapace remain unresolved.

What the Void is
The Void lies beyond reality. Its masters, the Watchers, had no form or self-awareness at first and want to unmake Runeterra.

The Freljord
The Watchers turned humans in the Freljord into immortal Iceborn. Avarosa led a rebellion, and her sister Lissandra entombed the Watchers in True Ice beneath the Howling Abyss. Some escaped, and those trapped made the first Voidborn.

Icathia
Around 2500 BN the Icathians rebelled against Shurima, dug up a mysterious weapon and opened a huge rift. It destroyed their civilization and released countless Voidborn. The Rupture is still there.

Today
Nine runic seals slowly weaken, and Voidborn keep appearing. Some champions hunt them while others, like Malzahar, serve the Void or open new rifts.
