What happens in the game

Alexstrasza and the Aspects seek renewal while confronting histories their institutions preferred not to examine.

The conflict with Fyrakk turns restoration into a test of whether the flights can protect Azeroth through relationship rather than recovered hierarchy alone.

The story, step by step

  1. Return to the Dragon Isles

The flights return to their ancestral home seeking restored purpose. The dracthyr awaken from stasis carrying Neltharion's legacy, while the Primal Incarnates challenge the titan-aligned order represented by the Aspects.

  2. Aberrus and fractured inheritance

Exploration of Neltharion's laboratory exposes experiments behind dracthyr control and black-dragon trauma. Ebyssian, Sabellian and Wrathion must decide whether leadership means inheriting his power or rejecting his model.

  3. Amirdrassil

Fyrakk uses shadowflame to threaten the new world tree. Dragons, mortals and night elves defend it together, and the Aspects' renewed power comes through Azeroth and relationship rather than a simple restoration of titan authority.

What the story is really about

Renewal requires examining the past

The flights cannot recover by romanticizing their origins; suppressed experiments and coercion must become part of their public identity.

Stewardship over hierarchy

The Aspects regain purpose by protecting a shared world, not by proving that dragons should stand above its mortal peoples.

How it ends

Fyrakk is defeated at Amirdrassil and the flights receive renewed power through their bond with Azeroth rather than a simple restoration of the old Titan-granted order.

What changes afterward

  • Dragonkind begins a different form of collective leadership.
  • Azeroth's direct role prepares the shift into the Worldsoul Saga.

How it connects forward

The War Within follows the call of the world-soul beneath Khaz Algar as Xal'atath advances the Void's campaign.
