What happens in the game
Liberating districts and recruiting Assassins changes Ezio from a solitary avenger into a leader who creates successors.
The modern team reaches the Colosseum vault, where Juno manipulates Desmond through another Piece of Eden.
The story, step by step
The fall of Monteriggioni
Cesare Borgia attacks Ezio's home, kills Mario and takes the Apple. Ezio follows the Borgias to Rome, where military occupation, church wealth and civic decay are different faces of the same control.
Rebuilding the Brotherhood
Destroying Borgia towers, restoring districts and recruiting citizens makes liberation structural rather than solitary. Ezio learns to command a network while Lucrezia, Juan and Cesare's alliances unravel.
Rome and the modern vault
Ezio uses the Apple to break Cesare's power and later confronts him in Spain. In the present, Desmond retrieves the Apple beneath the Colosseum, where Juno seizes his body and forces him to kill Lucy.
What the story is really about
Leadership creates other agents
Ezio's growth is measured by the people he trains and trusts, not only by his personal capacity for violence.
Liberation needs civic repair
Removing a ruler is paired with reopening shops and reducing military control, linking political freedom to daily urban life.
How it ends
Ezio breaks Borgia control in Rome and Cesare dies in Spain; in the present, Juno forces Desmond to stab Lucy before he collapses.
What changes afterward
- The Roman Brotherhood becomes a durable organization.
- The modern story reveals that Isu guidance can be coercive rather than benevolent.
How it connects forward
Revelations sends an older Ezio to Constantinople in search of Altaïr's library while Desmond recovers inside the Animus.
