Who they are
Zyra is tied to the Gardens of Zyr, which were destroyed during the Rune Wars.
Their story belongs to Ixtal. Elemental mages hiding behind a wall of shifting jungle.
Their story, step by step
- Step 1
The Gardens of Zyr
Zyra began as a hive mind of carnivorous plants living in the Gardens of Zyr, in the jungles of Shurima.
- Step 2
The explosion
During the Rune Wars, soldiers and an ambitious sorceress entered the garden and were attacked. Frightened, the sorceress cast a spell that lit the swamp's fumes and caused an explosion that destroyed the gardens.
- Step 3
Waking
After centuries of barren ground Zyra emerged as something new, neither fully plant nor fully human. She struggled to understand herself while growing curious about a changed world. Her plants began spreading west toward the Mother of Life river system.
- Step 4
Kumangra
A flower shop owner in Kumangra collected some of her flowers. When watered, they grew vines that wrapped him in a fatal cocoon. His wife tried to destroy the flower, but Zyra stepped in and killed her too. As she died, the woman saw a world covered in Zyra's plants and nothing else.
Turning points
- Her gardens were destroyed by the sorceress's spell
- She emerged centuries later as part plant, part human
- She killed the owner and wife in Kumangra
Where their story stands now
Zyra wanders Runeterra and treats humans as prey. She wants to cover the world in her plants, though her deeper purpose is not revealed. Nothing in the lore shows how her spread could be stopped.
Who they are tied to
Where this fits in the story
- Ixtal · step 1
A wall of jungle
A magical barrier keeps outsiders away by changing weather and moving terrain. Few people have seen Ixtal from inside.
- Ixtal · step 2
The Axiomata and the arcologies
Different arcologies specialize in different elements: one in fire, rock and magnetism, another in water, ice and steam.
- Ixtal · step 3
Leaving the empire
Ixtal was once part of the Shuriman Empire and withdrew after witnessing catastrophic wars, including a clash between the Ascended Ne'Zuk's Monolith fortress and the Void.
- Ixtal · step 4
Back in the world
After millennia of isolation, Qiyana's actions exposed Ixtal to Piltover. The Ixtali still see other nations as upstarts and pretenders.
