Final Fantasy XIV
An adventurer becomes the Warrior of Light and joins the Scions in defending the Source from primals, empires and threats rooted in the world's ancient division.
2013A Realm Reborn through the current sagaCanon status: Evolving story
What happens in the game
A Realm Reborn establishes Eorzea's alliances; Heavensward confronts Ishgard's manufactured history; Stormblood challenges imperial occupation; Shadowbringers reveals the sundered worlds; and Endwalker resolves the long Hydaelyn-Zodiark arc.
Later journeys begin from the consequences of that victory rather than erasing them. Because XIV is live, its world and relationships continue to change through expansions and patches.
The story, step by step
Eorzea and the Seventh Umbral Era
The Warrior of Light helps the city-states resist primal summonings and Garlean expansion, then survives political betrayal. The Scions become the connective institution through which local crises reveal a larger struggle over aether and history.
From Ishgard to the First
Heavensward uncovers the lie sustaining the Dragonsong War; Stormblood supports liberation from Garlean rule; Shadowbringers crosses to the First and reveals the Ascians as survivors seeking to restore their sundered world at the cost of current lives.
The end of the ancient saga
Endwalker follows the Final Days to their emotional and cosmic source, opposing despair with accumulated relationships rather than a claim that suffering can disappear. Dawntrail and later patches begin new histories after that resolution, so the game's canon remains live.
What the story is really about
Understanding does not erase accountability
Dragons, occupiers and Ancients receive historical context without making the people harmed by them expendable.
Hope is collective practice
The answer to despair is built through remembered acts of aid across expansions, not through one hero's invulnerability.
How it ends
The first great saga closes with the cause of the Final Days confronted, but the Warrior of Light's story continues into new regions and conflicts.
What changes afterward
- The Scions become a found family and a durable diplomatic network.
- The Ancients' tragedy reframes the cosmology without invalidating the value of present lives.
How it connects forward
Future expansions continue the same character history, so this page distinguishes completed arcs from live developments.
