What it is

Final Fantasy VII takes place on Gaia, a world where Shinra turns the Planet's spiritual energy, Mako, into industrial power. Avalanche begins as a resistance group, but Cloud's journey soon reveals a deeper threat tied to Sephiroth, Jenova and the Lifestream.

Unlike the broader anthology, the original game, its Compilation works and the remake project are intentionally related. The remake project revisits core events through its own developing continuity, so it should be read beside the original rather than as a simple scene-for-scene replacement.

VII's deepest conflict is not only between heroes and Sephiroth but between a Planet with a future and an economy built on consuming that future. Cloud's personal instability lets the story connect industrial violence to the intimate cost of believing a usable version of one's own past.

Midgar makes the planetary conflict visible in architecture: the people below live under the plate while the energy sustaining the city is drawn from a world they cannot easily see or govern.

The short version

  • Gaia's Mako economy makes environmental exploitation central to the plot.
  • Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth are connected through memory, identity and the Planet's future.
  • The Compilation and remake project are explicit VII relationships, not crossovers with other numbered worlds.
  • The Lifestream makes Gaia an active participant in the story, turning environmental extraction into a relationship with a living world.

The story in 6 steps

  1. Step 1

    Leave Midgar

Cloud joins Avalanche in a city built over a world Shinra drains for Mako.

  2. Step 2

    Question the past

Cloud's memories and Sephiroth's history make identity a central mystery.

  3. Step 3

    Understand the Lifestream

The Planet is an active moral and spiritual presence, not a passive setting.

  4. Step 4

    Face Meteor

The final conflict asks whether people can protect a world they have spent generations exploiting.

  5. Step 5

    Let the Planet answer

The route moves from resistance in Midgar to the realization that saving friends and saving Gaia have become the same moral task.

  6. Step 6

Follow energy to its human cost

Read Mako from the slums outward, connecting industrial promise to the people and ecosystems asked to pay for it.
