The Unity

In this chapterThe completed Armillary opens the Unity, where the traveler meets an alternate self who explains how their choices will echo through the universe left behind.

The Unity is not a conventional victory screen. It reflects the life already lived, then asks whether curiosity outweighs attachment. Entering creates New Game Plus inside the fiction: the traveler keeps knowledge but surrenders the people and world that made that knowledge meaningful.

Turning back is not refusing the ending. It affirms that finitude gives the current universe value and leaves the door open for a later decision. Entering is likewise not simple betrayal. It accepts transformation, wonder and the possibility that identity can continue without continuity of place. The cost is that nobody can cross with exactly the relationship they had.

The alternate self shows consequences before departure, making the finale a moral inventory rather than a score. Faction decisions, romances and loyalties become the trace the traveler leaves in a universe they may never see again. The question is not whether infinity exists; it is whether the desire to see more can remain human once every home becomes optional.

The Unity ending is deliberately bittersweet. Entering preserves curiosity but abandons a particular world; returning values a life precisely because it cannot be replayed with the same people.

What unfolds

  1. The player may turn away and return to their current life, or enter the Unity and be reborn as Starborn in another universe.
  2. Entering preserves knowledge and grants a new beginning but leaves companions, possessions and the traveler's exact universe permanently behind.
