A Realm Reborn · 1572 · playing as Warrior of Light
The Seventh Astral Era
In this chapterThe Scions of the Seventh Dawn, led by Minfilia, recognise the Warrior of Light's Echo and ask them to deal with the primal threats Ifrit, Garuda and Titan.
The Warrior of Light arrives in Eorzea and discovers they have the Echo, a gift that lets them see the past. Minfilia and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn recruit them to stop the primals that threaten the realm.
The Garlean Empire, led in Eorzea by Gaius van Baelsar, attempts to use the Ultima Weapon and the moon Dalamud to conquer the realm. The Warrior stops them at the Praetorium, ending the Calamity's return. A Realm Reborn is the foundation of the whole story. It explains why Eorzea is fractured and why the Scions work in secret.
The primals are summoned gods created by the faith of the beast tribes, and the Warrior has to fight them while understanding why the people called them. The Ascians' presence is only hinted at here, but they will become the main antagonists.
What unfolds
Five years after the Seventh Umbral Calamity, the Warrior of Light arrives in Eorzea and joins one of the three Grand Companies.
The Garlean Empire uses the Ultima Weapon and Gaius van Baelsar's legion in the war against Eorzea.
The Ascians manipulate events, and the Warrior learns that Nael van Darnus is calling down the moon Dalamud.
At the Praetorium, Gaius is defeated and the Ultima Weapon is destroyed; Eorzea survives the Calamity's return.
Heavensward · 1575 · playing as Warrior of Light
Ishgard and the Dragonsong War
In this chapterThe Warrior of Light travels to Ishgard, a city locked in a thousand-year war with dragons.
In Ishgard, the Warrior discovers a society ruled by the church and trapped in a thousand-year conflict with dragons. Haurchefant offers friendship, Estinien offers a fierce ally and Alphinaud returns. The Holy See hides a secret about its own history. The Warrior learns the truth and, in the end, the long war is brought to a close.
Heavensward turns a simple war story into a tragedy about lies. The founding myth of Ishgard is built on a betrayal of the dragons. Haurchefant's sacrifice is one of the most remembered moments of the game and shows the cost of faith in a stranger. The Warrior is no longer just a hero but someone connected to the Echo and to the dragons.
What unfolds
The Warrior meets Haurchefant, Estinien and Alphinaud, and discovers the truth about the Dragonsong War.
The Archbishop Thordan VII and the Holy See hide the fact that Ishgard's founders drank the blood of the dragon Midgardsormr.
The Warrior confronts the dragon Nidhogg and the war that has defined Ishgard ends with the truth exposed.

Ala Mhigo, Doma and Zenos
In this chapterThe Warrior of Light helps liberate Ala Mhigo from Garlean rule with the Resistance.
The Warrior supports Ala Mhigo's resistance and helps liberate it from Garlean rule. In Doma, the Warrior joins Hien and Yugiri in a struggle for freedom. Zenos yae Galvus, the Emperor's son, becomes obsessed with the Warrior. The Garlean leadership falls and Zenos takes control. Stormblood explores what it means to free a people. The conquered must decide whether to forgive their occupiers.
Yotsuyu is the expansion's most tragic character, a victim who becomes a monster. Zenos is not driven by power but by the thrill of a worthy fight, which makes him a unique villain.
What unfolds
In Doma, Yotsuyu and Zenos yae Galvus serve as cruel foes; the Warrior supports the rebel Doma Liberation.
The Warrior faces primals tied to the conquered peoples, including Ravana, Susano and Lakshmi.
Zenos, obsessed with finding a worthy opponent, fixates on the Warrior and later takes control of the Empire after Emperor Varis.
Shadowbringers · 1580 · playing as Warrior of Light
The First and the Light
In this chapterThe Warrior of Light is summoned to the First, a mirror world consumed by Light and Sin Eaters.
On the First, the Warrior sees a world drowned in Light, with Sin Eaters and a Crystarium that stands for the last hope. They fight through Lightwardens and meet Emet-Selch. Emet-Selch explains the Ascians' goal: to undo the Sundering and bring back their lost world. The Warrior defeats him, but the truth is not a simple evil.
Shadowbringers is widely seen as the series' peak. Its villains have understandable goals, and its heroes have to accept that the Ascians' sorrow is real. The Crystal Exarch's identity is a surprise that ties the story together. Emet-Selch's death reframes the whole conflict as a tragedy of loss.
What unfolds
The Warrior meets Ryne and the Crystal Exarch, and fights alongside Thancred, Urianger and Y'shtola.
Emet-Selch, an Ascian, reveals that the world was once one and was sundered to defeat Zodiark's rival, Hydaelyn.
The Warrior defeats Emet-Selch and the Lightwardens, and the Light is restored to balance.
Endwalker · 1585 · playing as Warrior of Light
The Final Days
In this chapterThe Warrior of Light and the Scions travel to Garlemald and beyond to stop the Final Days, brought by the Telophoroi.
The Warrior and the Scions race to Thavnair, Garlemald, the moon and the edge of the universe to stop the Final Days. They discover that Meteion's despair was provoked by her observation of countless dying worlds. Zenos' ultimate duel with the Warrior ends in his death. At the end, Meteion and Zodiark are defeated, and the star is saved.
Endwalker closes the story that began in A Realm Reborn. Its theme is that life's value lies in its struggle, not in its permanence. Meteion's tragedy mirrors the Ascians': both were made for a purpose and then turned to despair. The Warrior's journey ends with hope: the world was saved by the choices of its inhabitants, not by a single hero.
What unfolds
Zenos is revealed as a vessel of Elidibus and is slain after a last duel with the Warrior.
Meteion, the Emissary, is revealed as an artificial being created to reach other civilisations and now believes in despair.
The Warrior defeats Meteion and Zodiark, and the Final Days end.
