The Heist · 2077 · playing as V
Konpeki Plaza
In this chapterDuring the Konpeki Plaza heist, V and Jackie witness Yorinobu Arasaka murder Saburo Arasaka and present it as poisoning.
At Konpeki Plaza, the crew gets trapped inside a corporate murder scene: Yorinobu kills Saburo and frames it as poisoning. The escape costs T-Bug and Jackie their lives, and V has to put the damaged Relic into their own head. Dex panics, shoots V and leaves them for dead.
The heist is the point where Cyberpunk stops being a rise-to-fame story. V and Jackie hide inside Yorinobu's suite and witness him murder his father, Saburo Arasaka, then disguise the death as poisoning. From there, everything unravels. T-Bug is killed remotely, Jackie is mortally wounded, and the Relic's case is damaged. To keep the chip alive, V slots it into their own neural port.
Dex DeShawn reacts like a fixer protecting himself, not like a partner. He shoots V and dumps them, trying to make the failed job disappear.
What unfolds
The escape destroys the crew: T-Bug dies, Jackie dies, and V slots the damaged Relic into their own head.
Dex shoots V and leaves them for dead to hide his involvement in the failed heist.
Act 2 · 2077 · playing as V
The Relic starts winning (also called Playing for Time)
In this chapterViktor explains that the Relic revived V but is overwriting V's mind with Johnny's engram, leaving V with limited time.
V survives because the Relic activates in their head, but they wake up with Johnny Silverhand's memories bleeding into them. Takemura kills Dex and saves V because V can prove Yorinobu murdered Saburo. Viktor tells V the real cost: the Relic is overwriting V's mind with Johnny's engram.
Johnny starts as a hostile presence, but he eventually helps because V's search for a cure also points toward Arasaka. The bullet does not quite kill V. The damaged Relic activates, and V wakes in a landfill with the memories of Johnny Silverhand, a dead rockerboy and anti-Arasaka terrorist, crashing through their head.
Takemura finds V because V is useful: they witnessed the truth about Saburo's death. He kills Dex and keeps V alive as possible proof against Yorinobu. Viktor gives the diagnosis. The Relic saved V by repairing enough damage to restart them, but it is also rewriting their brain for Johnny. V is alive, but the body is becoming someone else's.
Johnny first treats V like an obstacle. Over time, he shifts: helping V survive becomes another way to strike at the corporation that turned both of them into data.
What unfolds
V wakes in a landfill with Johnny Silverhand's memories in their head; Takemura kills Dex and rescues V as evidence against Yorinobu.
Johnny first appears as an enemy in V's head, then decides to help V look for a cure while also pushing his war against Arasaka.
Evelyn · 2077 · playing as V
Evelyn, Pacifica and Alt (also called Automatic Love to Transmission)
In this chapterAlt agrees that if V gets her into Arasaka's subnet and Mikoshi, she can separate V and Johnny.
V searches for Evelyn with Judy and finds that Evelyn was hacked, sold to Scavs, rescued and ultimately broken by what happened to her. Evelyn's memories point to the Voodoo Boys, who wanted Johnny's engram as a bridge beyond the Blackwall. Through Johnny's memories, V learns about Alt Cunningham, Soulkiller and Mikoshi.
Alt agrees to separate V and Johnny if V can get her into Arasaka's systems and Mikoshi. The Evelyn branch is the human cost of the heist. V and Judy follow her trail through Clouds and the Scavs, only to learn that Evelyn was used, hacked, sold and left traumatized beyond rescue.
Her memories reveal why the Relic mattered to people outside Arasaka. The Voodoo Boys wanted Johnny's engram because it might help them reach the other side of the Blackwall. That path opens Johnny's old wound: Alt Cunningham. Alt created Soulkiller, Arasaka turned it into a weapon, and Mikoshi became the digital prison where copied minds could be stored and used.
Alt is no longer simply the person Johnny remembers; she is an AI beyond the Blackwall. Still, she gives V a plan: bring her to Mikoshi, and she can separate V from Johnny.
What unfolds
V follows Evelyn Parker's trail with Judy and learns Evelyn was hacked, sold to Scavs, rescued, and later dies by suicide.
Evelyn's memories lead V to the Voodoo Boys, who wanted Johnny's engram as a way to reach beyond the Blackwall.
V relives Johnny's past and learns about Alt Cunningham, Soulkiller, Mikoshi and the roots of Arasaka's engram technology.
Panam · 2077 · playing as V
The hunt for Hellman (also called Ghost Town to Life During Wartime)
In this chapterV works with Panam Palmer and the Aldecaldos to capture Anders Hellman, the creator of the Relic.
V follows another lead into the Badlands and works with Panam Palmer and the Aldecaldos to capture Anders Hellman. Hellman understands the Relic better than almost anyone, but even he cannot give V a cure. The best he can do is confirm the problem before V hands him over to Takemura.
The Hellman branch turns the cure into a chase. V teams with Panam Palmer and the Aldecaldos, hijacks the path of an Arasaka-linked transport and captures Anders Hellman, the man who helped build the Relic. Hellman is useful but not saving. He can explain the mechanism and confirm that V is in deep trouble, but he has no clean way to reverse what the chip has done.
That failure matters: every lead is narrowing toward the same place. If the creator cannot fix it, V needs access to the corporate machinery that owns the technology.
Panam's route gives V something the corporate leads cannot: a community capable of disagreeing without reducing a person to data. The Aldecaldos help because relationships create obligations, while Hellman helps only after being captured and continues to describe V as a malfunctioning case. His diagnosis removes the fantasy that technical expertise will restore the original body untouched. From this point, every solution carries a social choice as well as a medical one. V must decide whose risks are acceptable, which institution may enter their mind and what kind of life still counts as survival.
What unfolds
Hellman confirms the scale of V's problem but cannot provide the cure V needs, and he is later handed to Takemura.
Arasaka · 2077 · playing as V
Takemura's proof (also called Down on the Street to Search and Destroy)
In this chapterTakemura tries to bring proof of Yorinobu's crime to Arasaka executives, and he and V abduct Hanako Arasaka.
Takemura's plan is to prove Yorinobu killed Saburo, so he and V force Hanako Arasaka into the truth. The plan blows up when Arasaka attacks and V has to flee. Hanako later contacts V: help her remove Yorinobu, and she will help with the Relic.
Johnny opposes the offer because it means trusting Arasaka with V's life. Takemura's path is corporate revenge dressed up as justice. He needs Hanako Arasaka to hear the truth about Saburo, and V needs any route that might lead to the Relic's removal. The abduction works just long enough to matter. Hanako learns enough, Arasaka forces storm in, and V escapes another disaster tied to the same family.
Hanako's later offer is tempting because it is practical: help her oust Yorinobu and Arasaka may save V. Johnny hates it because Arasaka is the machine that killed, copied and exploited him in the first place.
Takemura and Johnny embody two incompatible readings of Arasaka. Takemura sees a corrupted hierarchy that Hanako can restore once Yorinobu is exposed; Johnny sees a system whose abuse survives every individual leader. V cannot dismiss either man as neutral: Takemura's loyalty is tied to the corporation that gave him status, while Johnny's hatred is tangled with ego and memory. Hanako's proposal is powerful because the Relic has taken away V's luxury of ideological purity. Trusting Arasaka may be dangerous, but refusing it means asking friends to risk their lives for a cure no one can promise.
What unfolds
After Arasaka attacks, Hanako contacts V and offers help against Yorinobu, an option Johnny strongly opposes.
Nocturne · 2077 · playing as V
The point of no return (also called Nocturne Op55N1 and the finale)
In this chapterAt Nocturne Op55N1, V's rooftop decision with Johnny determines the final route.
Nocturne Op55N1 is the point of no return: on Misty's rooftop, V and Johnny decide the ending route. V can trust Hanako, call the Aldecaldos, let Johnny and Rogue attack, or unlock the solo suicide run. The routes differ, but they all circle back to Arasaka, Adam Smasher and Mikoshi.
Alt can split V from Johnny, but the damage is already done. The final question is brutal: does V become data, live on borrowed time, or give the body to Johnny? The final act makes the whole game small and personal again. On Misty's rooftop in Nocturne Op55N1, V has to choose a route with Johnny: trust Arasaka, attack Arasaka with allies, or refuse the usual routes.
Which options appear depends on what V did before. Hanako is the default path. Panam and the Aldecaldos require Panam's chain. Rogue requires Johnny and Rogue's side jobs. The secret solo route requires a specific relationship with Johnny. The routes have different emotional meanings, but the same technological wall waits at the end: Arasaka Tower, Adam Smasher, Mikoshi and Alt's attempt to separate two minds from one body.
Cyberpunk's ending is not about finding a perfect cure. Once Alt separates V and Johnny, the body has already been changed too much. The remaining endings decide which imperfect future V accepts.
What unfolds
The Arasaka assault can happen with the Aldecaldos, with Rogue and Johnny, or alone in the secret route; Hanako's path instead works from inside Arasaka.
All main routes involve confronting Adam Smasher before the final resolution.
Alt separates V and Johnny, but the Relic's damage is irreversible: V's body is no longer a clean solution for V.
The core outcomes are V becoming an engram, V living in their body with a shortened future, or Johnny keeping V's body while V goes beyond the Blackwall.
Hanako's route is always available, while the Panam, Rogue and secret routes require specific side-job progress.
The Star ending has V return to their body and leave Night City with the Aldecaldos.
The Sun ending has V return to their body as an Afterlife legend while Johnny remains with Alt beyond the Blackwall.
The Devil ending has V trust Hanako, help Arasaka remove Yorinobu, undergo treatment in orbit and choose between becoming an engram or returning to Earth.
Temperance has Johnny keep V's body and leave Night City while V remains with Alt in cyberspace.
Path of Least Resistance lets V end the story on the rooftop without attacking Arasaka.
Don't Fear the Reaper is a secret solo Arasaka Tower assault that can lead into Sun or Temperance-style outcomes if V survives.
