Chapter 1 · playing as The Destined One

Black Cloud, Red Fire

In this chapterAfter Sun Wukong rejects Celestial control and falls in battle against Erlang Shen, his six senses are scattered as relics across the world.

The quest begins after Wukong's rebellion appears to end in death. On Black Wind Mountain, the Destined One confronts beings tied to the Guanyin Temple tragedy from Journey to the West. Recovering the first relic establishes that each piece of Wukong is held inside another unfinished moral history.

The chapter's repeated language of robes, temples and fire makes desire more complicated than ordinary greed. Elder Jinchi's attachment to a cassock grew inside a religious institution that claimed detachment, while Black Bear Guai repeatedly moves between monster, disciple and enforcer. Labels granted by Heaven or Buddhism do not erase appetite; they often reorganize who may exercise it legitimately.

The Destined One is almost silent, so the world narrates Wukong at him. Every enemy interprets the Great Sage through fear, admiration or resentment. Gathering relics could therefore create a successor, restore the old hero or assemble the conditions for the same defeat. The game withholds which of those destinies the monkey is serving.

Black Wind Mountain introduces a world after the Journey to the West, where the old heroes are remembered through relics, resentments and stories that no longer agree on what liberation meant.

What unfolds

  1. The Destined One leaves Mount Huaguo to recover the relics and enters Black Wind Mountain, where old consequences of the Guanyin Temple fire remain.
  2. Defeating Black Bear Guai yields the Craving Eyes relic and begins the monkey's inheritance of Wukong's abilities and memories.

Chapter 2 · playing as The Destined One

Yellow Sand, Desolate Dusk

In this chapterIn Yellow Wind Ridge, a rat kingdom suffers under the Yellow Wind Sage and the consequences of defying the bodhisattva Lingji.

Yellow Wind Ridge tells a story in which monster rule and heavenly discipline are difficult to separate. The rat kingdom's disasters grow from acts of devotion, punishment and revolt that every surviving faction recounts differently. Winning the second relic resolves the immediate conflict without making the celestial version trustworthy.

The chapter trains the player to distrust clean categories. Yaoguai can protect communities, bodhisattvas can impose mutilating punishment, and rebellion can become tyranny once its leader holds power. The Destined One repeatedly repairs structures whose justice he has no authority to examine, making progress morally ambiguous even when bosses are clearly dangerous.

Fuming Ears suggests knowledge received through testimony. Yet the world is full of partial narrators, censored records and self-serving portraits. To inherit Wukong's hearing is not to gain a single truth; it is to become responsible for contradictions that Heaven would prefer flattened into obedience.

Yellow Wind Ridge makes suffering political as well as mythical: monsters and people have been shaped by celestial arrangements they did not choose, yet still hurt one another within them.

What unfolds

  1. The Headless Monk guides the Destined One before revealing himself as Lingji, whose stolen head is recovered after the Yellow Wind Sage falls.
  2. The Destined One receives the Fuming Ears relic while the chapter's histories expose how celestial punishment and local rebellion feed one another.

Chapter 3 · playing as The Destined One

White Snow, Ice Cold

In this chapterThe Destined One reaches the New West, where Yellowbrow uses stolen religious authority and the promise of easy enlightenment to rule his disciples.

Yellowbrow does not reject enlightenment; he commercializes and stages it. His followers accept confinement because he promises certainty without discipline. Zhu Bajie's arrival ties the new pilgrimage directly to Wukong's old companions, while the third relic makes succession feel increasingly deliberate.

The New West is persuasive because it resembles sacred order closely enough to satisfy people exhausted by uncertainty. Yellowbrow understands that counterfeit faith does not need to be wholly false; it needs recognizable symbols, rewards and an enemy outside the enclosure. The Destined One's violence frees prisoners, but freedom also returns them to doubt.

Bajie brings affection, comedy and guilt into a quest previously framed by the Old Monkey's instructions. He knew Wukong as a difficult companion rather than a legend. His presence makes the relics personal and establishes that becoming the Great Sage means entering relationships whose memories the Destined One did not earn.

The New West turns spiritual discipline into a question of control. Its frozen landscapes ask whether enlightenment has become another hierarchy that punishes those unable to fit it.

What unfolds

  1. Zhu Bajie joins the journey and helps expose Yellowbrow's counterfeit paradise within the giant sack and New Thunderclap Temple.
  2. Defeating Yellowbrow grants the Hubris Nose relic and reinforces the danger of institutions that turn spiritual language into control.

Chapter 4 · playing as The Destined One

Rosy Cheeks, Gray Hair

In this chapterThe Destined One and Bajie enter the Webbed Hollow, where the Violet Spider and her daughters are bound to a past relationship with Bajie.

Chapter Four turns a monster den into the remains of an intimate history. Bajie's old bond with the Violet Spider persists beneath shame, duty and changed bodies. The Hundred-Eyed Daoist exploits that household while celestial records obscure the violence supporting his authority.

The title's movement from rosy cheeks to gray hair makes time the chapter's cruelty. Immortals and transformed beings can survive for ages without receiving a shared life. Bajie's avoidance protects his pilgrimage identity and perhaps his family, but it also leaves the Violet Spider carrying consequences alone. Love exists here without the power to make a just home.

Envious Tongue fits a chapter full of desire spoken indirectly. Families, disciples and celestial officers communicate through accusations and official stories because direct acknowledgment would require responsibility. The Destined One acquires another sense by walking through what Wukong's old world refused to say plainly. The spider chapter makes desire and family inseparable from exploitation, showing how a celestial system can turn intimate bonds into mechanisms of obedience.

What unfolds

  1. The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master manipulates the spider guais and draws power from a celestial system that has concealed what happened at Purple Cloud Mountain.
  2. The Destined One defeats him and gains the Envious Tongue relic while Bajie leaves a family he cannot safely acknowledge or remain with.

Chapter 5 · playing as The Destined One

Golden Child, Crimson Blood

In this chapterIn the Flaming Mountains, the Bull King guards a relic while his family remains broken by Wukong's earlier pilgrimage and Heaven's later demands.

The Flaming Mountains gather the political cost of the old Journey to the West inside one family. The Bull King survived by compromising with stronger powers; Red Boy interprets that survival as humiliation. Recovering the relic reveals that Wukong's apparent death involved a distribution of his senses among former enemies.

Red Boy's anger is historically grounded and personally destructive. A lineage erased by celestial violence deserves remembrance, but he treats family members as resources for restoration. The pattern resembles Heaven itself: a claimed higher order authorizes sacrifice by people who will not bear it.

The Bull King understands more about Wukong's plan than he can safely explain. His reluctance reframes passivity as the exhaustion of someone who has seen rebellion repeatedly absorbed into a larger arrangement. The Destined One's arrival reopens that arrangement, but whether he is liberating Wukong or delivering a replacement remains unresolved.

The fifth relic path clarifies that Wukong's inheritance cannot be restored by collecting power alone. Memory determines whether the Destined One repeats the old imprisonment or understands why Wukong resisted it.

What unfolds

  1. Red Boy manipulates the Bull King's household, reveals himself as Yaksha King and seeks the relic's power to reclaim a destroyed lineage.
  2. The Destined One defeats Yaksha King and receives the Grieved Body relic, learning that the chapter bosses once shared in the assault that divided Wukong's senses.

Chapter 6 · playing as The Destined One

Unfinished

In this chapterBack on Mount Huaguo, the Destined One recovers Wukong's armor and defeats the Great Sage's Broken Shell to assemble five relics and face the inheritance's final test.

The final battle proves that strength and equipment are not enough to inherit Wukong. The ordinary ending completes the visible quest but restores the circlet's control. The hidden route through Erlang returns the missing mind, allowing the successor to understand why Wukong scattered himself and decline the ritual.

The Broken Shell is Wukong reduced to reproducible greatness: techniques, armor, posture and power without the memory that gave rebellion purpose. Defeating it can still produce failure if the Destined One accepts the role Heaven prepared. The story distinguishes imitation from inheritance through the capacity to understand and refuse.

The true ending suggests Wukong's death was an escape strategy. No living body could remove the circlet, so he distributed the conditions for a successor who might inherit everything except obedience. Freedom is not guaranteed by defeating Heaven once. It survives when the next person recognizes the ceremony that would make victory another appointment inside the same system.

The true ending reframes succession as an ethical act: becoming another Wukong is not victory if the circlet and the story that justified it remain untouched.

What unfolds

  1. In the standard ending, the Destined One accepts Wukong's circlet and becomes a new Great Sage bound to the same celestial control.
  2. If Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings are defeated first, the Destined One receives Wukong's memories and rejects the circlet, completing Wukong's plan for a free successor.
