Ending explained

Every route, what unlocks it and what each final choice means.

~4 min read

After defeating the Great Sage's Broken Shell, the Destined One reaches one of two endings. The standard route places Wukong's circlet on him, completing the succession while restoring celestial control. Defeating Erlang Shen before the finale restores Wukong's memories. The Destined One then refuses the circlet, revealing that Wukong's scattered relics were a path toward a successor who could remain free.

What it means

The difference between endings is not combat strength but historical consciousness. A successor who knows only Wukong's power can be installed; one who knows why Wukong rebelled can recognize installation as defeat. Across the six chapters, religious and celestial titles repeatedly conceal appetite, punishment and compromise. Freedom begins with seeing the system beneath the title offered to you.

consequences

The true ending reframes succession as an ethical act: becoming another Wukong is not victory if the circlet and the story that justified it remain untouched. The ending is best read against the earlier turning points: it does not erase their damage, but shows what the protagonists choose to carry forward after it.
