Pythagoras, the Staff and Layla
In this chapterThe hero meets their biological father, Pythagoras, who is revealed to be a descendant of the Isu, like Myrrine and Leonidas.
The hero meets Pythagoras, who is their biological father and a descendant of the Isu. He gives them the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, which grants immortality and the responsibility to protect Atlantis' secrets.
In the modern day, Layla Hassan recovers Leonidas' spear and uses the Animus to relive the memories of the hero. In Atlantis, the hero tells her that neither Assassins nor Templars should win completely, and gives her the Staff. The epilogue connects the Greek past to the present through the Staff. Pythagoras' revelation explains why the hero's family was targeted by prophecy: the bloodline carries Isu heritage.
Immortality makes the hero a figure outside of time. The Staff is a gift and a burden, and the expansions explore what it costs to live forever. Layla's presence moves the series past Desmond's story. The hero's advice about balance sets the philosophical direction of the modern-day storyline. The Staff turns the hero into a figure of legend, and the DLC explores what such a long life means.
Layla's presence is the franchise's link to the next stories, including Valhalla.
What unfolds
Pythagoras gives the hero the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, making them its Keeper and granting biological immortality.
In 2018, Layla Hassan uses the Animus to relive the hero's memories and search for the Staff and Atlantis.
In Atlantis the hero warns Layla that balance between Assassin and Templar ideals is essential and gives her the Staff before dying.
The Staff of Hermes Trismegistus makes its holder the Keeper, a being outside of normal ageing.
Layla Hassan wants the Staff to find Atlantis and uses the Animus to follow the hero's memories.

Legacy of the First Blade
In this chapterIn Legacy of the First Blade, the Order of the Ancients, the precursor of the Templars, hunts the hero to eliminate their bloodline, which it considers too powerful.
In this expansion, the hero is hunted by the Order of the Ancients, who see their line as dangerous. Darius, who is persecuted in the same way, becomes an ally. The story is also about the hero's wish to have a normal life after years of war.
Legacy of the First Blade links Odyssey to the origins of the Assassins and Templars, showing the first conflicts that led to the Brotherhood. The hero's wish for a family is a human counterpart to the story's mythic scale.
What unfolds
Darius, a figure mentioned in Assassin's Creed II, helps the hero while facing similar persecution.
A key subplot is the hero's desire to settle down and start a family.

The Fate of Atlantis
In this chapterIn Atlantis the hero serves as Dikastes under Poseidon and discovers the Isu's crimes against humanity, including Project Olympos.
With Aletheia's help, the hero finds the symbols that open Atlantis. Along the way they visit mythic realms: Elysium, the Underworld and Atlantis itself. In Atlantis, the hero serves as a judge and finds the Isu's experiments, then decides the city must be destroyed. Atlantis is shown as a civilisation that created and used humans as tools. Project Olympos, a program of experiments, is the proof.
The expansion also gives the franchise its explanation for Greek myth: gods and monsters are Isu or Isu creations.
What unfolds
The hero meets the Isu Aletheia, whose consciousness lives in the Staff, and must find three tombs containing symbols to open Atlantis' gate.
The expansion features three realms: Elysium, where the hero deals with Persephone's strict rule and Adonis' rebellion; the Underworld, where the hero defeats Cerberus; and Atlantis.
The hero decides Atlantis is unsalvageable and helps sink the city.
