Ending explained

Every route, what unlocks it and what each final choice means.

~4 min read

The Witcher ends by solving the Salamandra mystery and immediately opening a new one. The core answer is that the organisation was led by the Order's Grand Master, who was Alvin from the future. The endings you see depend on your faction choices, on who Alvin stays with and on whom Geralt trusted in Vizima.

outcome

Salamandra falls, the Order loses its leader and the Scoia'tael lose the chance for a clear victory. Vizima survives, but the political tensions remain. Geralt leaves with more answers than he came with: the White Frost is real, the formulae are in dangerous hands, and the next king may fall to a witcher assassin.

What it means

The Witcher is a story about neutrality failing. Geralt tries to stay out of politics but ends up deciding the fate of a city, and the cost of doing so is carried into every later game.
