Chapter II (Iorveth) · 1272 · playing as Geralt
The Iorveth Path: Vergen and the Dragon
In this chapterGeralt learns that Saskia is a dragon whose will is being controlled by the sorceress Philippa Eilhart.
Following Iorveth, Geralt reaches Vergen, where a ragged rebel army opposes the Kaedweni. He helps Saskia, the charismatic rebel queen, and helps the defenders against Henselt's siege. The dwarves, elves and humans of the rebellion are bound by a shared hatred of the oppressor.
The shock comes when Geralt learns that Saskia is a golden dragon whose will has been bent by Philippa Eilhart. The rebels' hero is a puppet; the Lodge is using the revolt as a weapon.
The Iorveth path shows the cost of rebellion. The rebels fight for dignity, but their victories are paid for in lives, and their leader is not free. Geralt's choices help the rebellion win battles and lose their innocence.
Saskia's dragon nature links the game to the longer saga's theme of ancient powers controlled by mages. She is not simply a monster; she is a victim, and the player's final decision about her is one of the series' hardest.
Iorveth is more than a fighter: he is a survivor of human oppression, and his relationship with Geralt grows from suspicion to respect. If the player sides with him, the cost is that Roche and Temeria's loyalists become enemies.
What unfolds
Geralt sails with Iorveth to Aedirn and joins the rebellion against Henselt of Kaedwen.
He creates an antidote for Saskia, the rebel leader, and lifts a curse on the town of Vergen.
He discovers that the rebels' defence of Vergen depends on dwarven and human refugees.
Chapter II (Roche) · 1272 · playing as Geralt
The Roche Path: Henselt and Loc Muinne
In this chapterGeralt assassinates Loredo for treason and sails with Roche to Aedirn.
On Roche's path Geralt works for the kingdoms rather than for the rebels. He helps Henselt's army, breaks conspiracies and protects the king from witcher assassins sent by Letho's allies.
The chapter ends with a moral test. Roche wants Henselt dead for his crimes and for the stability of Temeria. Geralt can let the plan go forward or convince Roche to spare the king, a choice that colours the political map of the epilogue.
Roche's path is the realpolitik route. The friends Geralt makes are soldiers, spies and nobles, and the arguments are about order, not freedom. It is as morally mixed as the rebel path, because order comes with executions and political murders.
Henselt is a complex figure: brutal, honourable in his own way and obsessed with taking land. Saving him buys time for the North, while killing him might break Kaedwen's war machine. The Roche path also gives the player a different view of the Kingslayer. The assassinations that haunt Henselt show that Letho's plan is bigger than a single king.
What unfolds
He fights alongside King Henselt of Kaedwen against the rebellion.
He defends Henselt from witcher assassins and uncovers loyalist conspirators.
Geralt must choose whether Roche may murder Henselt or whether to spare the king.
Chapter III · 1272 · playing as Geralt
Loc Muinne
In this chapterGeralt must choose whom to rescue: Triss or Philippa on the Iorveth path, or Triss or Princess Anais on the Roche path.
Loc Muinne is the stage for the mage conclave, a gathering that could end persecution or consolidate power. Philippa and Síle use it to take control through Saskia, whom they plan to unleash as a dragon. Letho's actions in the background complicate the plan.
Geralt must choose among captives and allies. Whom he rescues determines whether the mages can restore order after the crisis. In the final confrontation, he can kill Saskia, spare her or break the spell holding her.
The decision at Loc Muinne is the main hinge of the game. Saving Triss keeps the Conclave together and prevents a pogrom; saving someone else may be the human choice but has political costs. The game does not hide that every option abandons someone.
Síle de Tansarville's fate is a character study. She is ambitious and cruel, and the way she is trapped by Letho's sabotage forces Geralt to choose whether even enemies deserve rescue. It is a smaller version of the main question of the series.
Saskia's last scene is the emotional peak. A dragon who was used as a weapon can be killed, spared or freed. Whichever choice Geralt makes, the cost is clear: he cannot undo the damage that others inflicted on her.
What unfolds
The great mages gather at Loc Muinne to found the Conclave, a magical ruling body.
Philippa Eilhart and Síle de Tansarville plot to seize power using Saskia's dragon form.
Geralt confronts Saskia and can kill her, spare her or break Philippa's spell, while Síle is trapped by Letho's sabotage.
Epilogue · 1272 · playing as Geralt
Letho and the Invasion
In this chapterGeralt finally confronts Letho, who reveals Nilfgaard's plan to destabilise the Northern Kingdoms through the assassinations.
After Loc Muinne the consequences arrive. If Geralt saved Triss, the mages reorganise; if not, the North descends into violence against sorcerers. Geralt then tracks Letho down and demands the truth.
Letho explains that the Kingslayers were Nilfgaard's tools, used to remove kings and break the North's alliance. Geralt can fight him or let him go. The final scene shows Nilfgaard's armies crossing the border and starting the war that dominates the next game.
Letho is the best antagonist of the early saga because he is not a monster. He believes his actions protect witchers from extinction and cannot see himself as a villain, which echoes the way Geralt justifies his own neutrality.
The reveal that Nilfgaard planned the assassinations turns the game into a prologue for a world war. The player's decisions about Roche, Iorveth and Henselt now determine who will face the invasion. As an ending, it is open on purpose. The war is no longer a rumour, the Continent is fragmented, and Geralt's search for Ciri is the next step.
What unfolds
If Triss was saved, the Conclave restores order; if not, a pogrom of magic users begins across the North.
Geralt can duel Letho or let him go.
A post-credits scene shows Nilfgaard's invasion, leading to The Witcher 3.
