In this chapterTidus, a blitzball star in Zanarkand, is swept into Spira when Sin attacks the city and Auron appears.
The game begins in the glittering city of Zanarkand, where Tidus plays blitzball. When Sin attacks, Tidus's mentor Auron appears and leads him to a world a thousand years in the future. Tidus lands in Spira and meets Wakka. He learns that Sin, a gigantic monster, terrorises the world. Yuna, a summoner on a pilgrimage to the Final Summoning, accepts Tidus as one of her guardians.
The prologue is told by Tidus in flashbacks, which gives the game a nostalgic voice. The narration is both a story and a confession. Spira is introduced as a world that lives with fear. Sin is a punishment according to the religion of Yevon, and the people accept it.
Yuna's pilgrimage is a Christ-like journey. She is willing to die to give the world a few years of peace, a theme that defines the game.

He meets Wakka and the Besaid Aurochs and learns about Sin.

Sin attacks Luca and the party sees the devastation. Seymour, a young maester of Yevon, introduces himself to Yuna and begins to interest the party.
The Sending is a central ritual. Yuna dances to send the dead to the Farplane, and its beauty contrasts with the grief of the survivors. Luca's blitzball tournament adds humour and sport to the story. It is a break from the pilgrimage, but also a place where the party shows their strength.
Seymour is introduced as a gracious ally. His courtesy hides a plan, and his eventual betrayal is a powerful twist.
