Final Fantasy VII ends with the defeat of Sephiroth and the destruction of Meteor by Holy and the Lifestream. The Planet survives. The epilogue, five hundred years later, shows Red XIII with cubs on the ruins of Midgar, covered by greenery.

Cloud, Tifa and the party defeat Jenova and Sephiroth in the Planet's core. Holy, released by Aerith's prayer, appears, and the Lifestream helps it destroy Meteor. The fate of the party members is left open, but the closing image shows that the Planet recovers.

What it means

The game is about identity, grief and the cycle of life. Cloud learns that his memory is not his own, Aerith's death proves that love can survive loss, and the Lifestream shows that nothing is wasted.
