Ending explained

Every route, what unlocks it and what each final choice means.

~4 min read

The final duel decides whether Maelle preserves the Canvas or Verso ends it. The developers have not designated either outcome as the canonical or good ending. Maelle rebuilds Lumiere and its people but repeats Aline's possessive grief; Verso erases the painted world and himself so Alicia and the real family must return to life outside it.

Who did you control in the final duel?

What it means

Both endings protect one form of personhood by violating another. Maelle values the lived reality of painted people; Verso values consent, release and the life Alicia still has outside. The game's final question is not whether grief should end. It is who may decide when remembrance becomes captivity and what obligations a created world places on its creators.

consequences

Maelle and Verso each protect something real: Maelle defends lives that exist inside the Canvas, while Verso defends the right to stop preserving a world through someone else's refusal to let go. The ending is best read against the earlier turning points: it does not erase their damage, but shows what the protagonists choose to carry forward after it.
