~4 min read

Assassin's Creed III ends with two sacrifices: Connor's break with the revolution he helped, and Desmond's death to stop the solar flare. The game closes Desmond's story and leaves Juno free.

outcome

Connor kills Haytham and Charles Lee, and buries the key. Desmond kills Vidic and Cross and sacrifices himself in the Temple. The Colonial Templars are ended, but the revolution does not bring Connor's people the freedom he hoped for.

What it means

The game shows how ideals and reality clash. Connor believes in liberty, but learns that its leaders can betray it, and Desmond accepts a sacrifice that is not entirely his choice.
